openSUSE's D-Installer Adds LVM & Full Disk Encryption Configuration

One of the big undertakings this year within the (open)SUSE camp has been the YaST team's work on D-Installer as their next-generation operating system installer. This week they have published a new prototype of this installer with more functionality now in place.

D-Installer is the (open)SUSE next-gen installer with its interface being web-based for the modern front-end while also sporting a D-Bus API and CLI interface too. With the new D-Installer prototype there is a new screen for configuring the storage setup of new (open)SUSE installations. From here the support has been restored for installing with a Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and also the ability to carry out full-disk encrypted installations. D-Installer supports LUKS2 and in the future plans to work on features like full disk encryption unlocking using the system's trusted platform module (TPM) and other modern functionality.

D-Installer also offers an improved user experience around password and user management, bug fixes, properly configuring the bootloader now on AArch64 systems, and other enhancements.
