Etc. galerie vyzývá umělkyně a umělce k účasti na semináři Odlišnost tvořená odlišností v umělecké tvorbě: Znepokojivá (feministická) identita, který povede britská teoretička a kritička Maria Walsh. Seminář bude příležitostí k diskuznímu setkání autorek a autorů z místní scény, kteří pracují s médiem pohyblivého obrazu a svou tvorbu vztahují k feministickému myšlení. Obsahem setkání budou krátké prezentace tvorby účastnic a účastníků (5–10 min) na základě reflexe textů Elizabeth Grosz Becoming Undone: Darwinian Reflections on Life, Politics, and Art a Amelie Jones Self/Image: Technology, Representation and the Contemporary Subject. V závěru semináře proběhne společná diskuze.

Seminář se odehraje v pátek 6. Prosince 2019 od 14:30 v prostorách konání festivalu PAF Olomouc. Po semináři bude následovat veřejná přednáška Marie Walsh a projekce dvou filmů od umělkyní Lucy Beech a Rehany Zaman.

Seminář je zdarma a bude probíhat v anglickém jazyce. Z důvodu časového omezení je limitována kapacita účastníků na 8 osob. Přihlášení je závazné, pro případ náhlého odřeknutí budou vybráni 2 náhradníci.

Maria Walsh je britská spisovatelka a kritička. Spoluorganizuje výzkumnou skupinu Subjektivita a feminismus na Chelsea College of Arts. Věnuje se teorii pohyblivého obrazu, performativity a feministickému přepracování fenomenologie. V srpnu 2019 vyšla kniha Women Artists, Feminism and the Moving Image: Contexts and Practices, do které přispěla, a v současnosti připravuje monografii s prozatímním názvem Performative Therapeutics in Contemporary Artists’ Moving Image.

Open Call - seminar with Maria Walsh for artists working with moving image

Etc. gallery invites artists to participate in the seminar The Difference that Difference Makes in Art Practice: Disturbing (Feminist) Identity, led by the British theoretician and art critic Maria Walsh. The seminar offers local artists, who deploy the medium of moving image in their work and relate to feminist theory, an opportunity to take part in a discussion. The content of the seminar will consist of short presentations of the participants (5 to 10 minutes) based on the reading of texts by Elizabeth Grosz Becoming Undone: Darwinian Reflections on Life, Politics, and Art and Amelie Jones Self/Image: Technology, Representation and the Contemporary Subject. The meeting will conclude with a joint discussion.

The seminar takes place on Friday the 6th of November 2019 from 2:30 pm at the PAF Festival in Olomouc. The seminar will be followed by a lecture by Maria Walsh and a screening of two films made by Lucy Beech and Rehana Zaman. 

The seminar is in English language and free of charge. Due to time limitations, the number of participants is limited to 8 persons. The registration is binding, in the case of cancellation there will be two substitute places.

Maria Walsh is a writer and art critic from the United Kingdom. She is the co-convenor of the Subjectivity & Feminisms research group at Chelsea College of Arts. She researches the theory of moving image, performativity and feminist revision of phenomenology. She contributed to the anthology Women Artists, Feminism and the Moving Image: Contexts and Practices published in August 2019 and is currently completing a monograph entitled Therapeutic Aesthetics: Performative Encounters in Artists’ Moving Image.
